Course abstract

The course is designed to acquire the specific knowledge and skills for design of shallow foundations on low capacity soils. The course includes the topic related to design methods according to ultimate capacity and settlement including time effects on the one. The course includes the design of sand cushion, packing of soils by earth deposits and improvement of soils using reinforcement bars and geotextiles. In order to develop the skills the relevant design problems are solved permanently.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Participants benefit from study course:
• Theoretical knowledge about low capacity soils and the behavior of system "soil - foundation":
• Personal and transferable skills for design foundations on low capacity soils.
• Competence for specific expertise and decision making when different types of foundations should be examined for use in soils of low bearing capacity.
