Course abstract

Design of single-storey steel frame of industrial building is mastered taking into account both static loading and dynamic effects. Design of main structural units – long span truss and eccentrically loaded column are performed. Corresponding drawings are worked out. Modern design software is used - MS Excel, AutoCAD, MathCAD preparing skills for use of BIM programs.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge about design of steel industrial buildings; skills to perform calculation and construction of steel frames and other complicated steel structures according to Eurocodes 1 and 3; competences to define design problem of steel structure, ability to perform design and evaluate the acquired results.
Assessment is given on the basis of course project defence.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Course project is succesfully presented and defended.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

To work out the course project student receive individual task and draw up a calendar plan. Performance of course project is controlled according to this plan.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Successful evaluation is earned, if appropriate amount of work is done and understanding about principles of project solutions are takinginto account as well discipline and quality of drawings.
