Course abstract

Students get acquainted with the construction process, its scheme, construction participants and their mutual relations, construction coordination process, stages of construction design, expertise, approval, work with project in construction company, public discussion of construction; building design and construction projects, their stages, coordination and acceptance; building permits, the procedure for their issue; organization and management of construction works, commissioning of structures. Acquaintance with EU and Republic of Latvia legislation in the field of construction and normative documents on construction.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge: on construction legislation, building regulations; construction work processes, principles of engineering, planning, organizing and managing construction works on the construction site. 1st, 2nd Test
• Skills: Develop an estimate of construction costs - an estimate. Practical works.
• Competence: ability to orient in the issues of construction project and construction planning and management, to prepare and execute executive documentation. Practical works. 3rd test.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Study course and its studies. The place and importance of construction in the economy of Latvia as a member of the European Union.
2. Hierarchy of construction legislation. LR and European Union legislation in the field of construction.
3. LR Law "Construction Law". Construction process, its scheme.
4. Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No.500 "General Construction Regulations".
5. Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No.529 "Building Regulations of Buildings" '
6. Public discussion of construction. LR Law on Public Procurement. Construction costs, their preparation. Organizing competitions for the right to build.
7. Preparation of building design. Application for construction. Documents required for starting construction design. 2. Test.
11. Customer, its rights and obligations. Designing task.
12. Construction design - development of construction design, responsibility for construction design, stages of construction design.
13 Sketch designs, technical design, construction design coordination, building design expertise, building design accepts.
14. Construction works. Building permit. Organization of construction work. Preparation of works. Documentation of construction works.
15. Project of organization of construction works. Construction work and quality control. Suspension and termination of construction works. Commissioning of buildings. 3. Test.
16. Test. Summary and evaluation of results.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Regular work in the classroom, including 3 tests, report, presentation, practical works, test, test with mark.

1. Report on legislative issues.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The student is able to confirm the acquired knowledge and skills on construction legislation, construction project management, construction organization, planning and management issues, performing 3 tests, practical work and Test.
