Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to provide students with a general overview of land surveying as a subject field, including land cadastral surveying, land management, topographic survey and geodesic works.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge: about the individual areas of activity of the land surveying industry and the information provided by them - final work
• Skill: to read information from different types of maps and plans - final work

• Competence: to apply and combine different types of information provided by maps and plans to describe the area - final work

Requirements for awarding credit points

1. Two tests on separate sections of the subject.
2. Attendance of classes not less than 75%.
3. Practical works submitted in due time.

4. For works submitted after the specified time (if there is no justifiable reason), the mark is reduced by 1 point.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Practical work No.1 - Recognition of the terrain situation in topographic maps and plans, measurement of distances, angles and areas on cartographic material, determination of coordinates and heights of terrain objects and places on maps. Transfer of map-selected terrain information to a resized plan in AutoCAD or DGN or sxp format;
Practical work No.2 - to perform the task of calculating coordinates and in accordance with the obtained results to prepare a boundary and situation plan in AutoCAD format.
Practical work No.3 - to master the structure of the theodolite, to perform measurements of horizontal angles with the theodolite and to perform calculations with the obtained results.
Practical work No.4 - to master the structure of the level, to perform elevation measurements and to perform calculations with the obtained results.
Practical work No.5 - to calculate the elevations and heights according to the leveling log. According to the calculations, compile a longitudinal profile in AutoCAD format.

Practical work No.6 - according to the surface leveling outline to prepare a height curve plan in AutoCAD format.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The evaluation of the study course depends on the quality of practical work and the evaluation obtained in tests.
