Course abstract

Course of study discussed fire safety laws that regulating fire protection. Students are acquainted with the European classification of reaction to fire of building materials, burning process, smoke release, most popular methods for wood and metal constructions fire protection.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course, the student will have an understanding the fire safety systems in the country and related regulatory enactments, fire protection systems in buildings and fire-fighting water supply. After receiving the course, the student acquires the ability to classify the fire resistance of building materials and building constructions, to assess the fire risk. Students acquire a sufficient level of competence to apply knowledge in the fire protection of wood and metal constructions, to reduce the fire risk of heating devices, and to limit the fire hazard in the building. Knowledge: students learn the nature and development of the burning process in buildings, the classification of building materials and building structures. Fire and safety methods of wood and metal construction. Skills: students after the course are familiar with the basic principles of ensuring fire safety of buildings. Knowledge will be used in practical work. Competences: after listening to the course, students will be competent to distinguish building material fire reaction by labeling. Student knowledges are assessed at the end of lectures by asking control questions and jointly discussing the most pressing problems, but at the end of the course students' knowledges are assessed with a test.
